Ingredients

  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 ¼ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels
  • 11 oz candy caramels
  • Optional: sea salt

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Importantly, make sure it fits in your fridge first!
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 2 cups of chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round. Heat until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted chocolate onto your prepared parchment-lined sheet. Use a spatula to spread it into a thin, even layer.
  • While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle crushed pretzels evenly across the top. Press them in gently with the back of a spoon.
  • Chop the apples into small bite-sized pieces. Pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels - this step is essential to prevent sogginess.
  • In a separate microwave-safe bowl, melt the unwrapped caramels in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth and pourable.
  • Scatter the chopped apples evenly over the pretzels. Drizzle the warm melted caramel over the top. Try to cover as much of the apple as possible to help seal in moisture.
  • Melt the remaining ¼ cup of chocolate chips and drizzle over the top for a finished look and added flavor.
  • Optionally, sprinkle sea salt over the top if using.
  • Place the entire baking sheet in the refrigerator and chill for at least 3 hours, or until completely set. Break into pieces before serving.

Notes

Dry the Apples Well: Moisture is the enemy here - pat your chopped apples as dry as possible so the bark doesn't become soggy.
Coat the Apples Quickly: Once the apples are chopped and dried, add them to the bark and drizzle with caramel right away to help seal in freshness and slow browning.
Use Parchment Paper: This makes removing the bark from the tray super easy and helps with cleanup.
Cut Before Serving: Use a sharp knife or simply break the bark into rustic chunks for serving.
