The Cutest Christmas Light Cupcakes

Cupcakes are always a hit at holiday gatherings, but these Christmas Light Cupcakes take things to the next level. They’re fun, colorful, and decorated to look like little strings of holiday lights. You can start with your favorite box mix - whether that’s vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, or something festive like spice cake - and build from there.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box cupcake mix plus ingredients called for on package
  • 1 (16-ounce) container vanilla frosting
  • 3 tablespoons black decorating icing
  • 84 –96 M&Ms

Instructions
 

  • Prepare your chosen box mix according to the package directions. Bake, then allow the cupcakes to cool completely before decorating.
  • Fill a piping bag fitted with a 1A tip with vanilla frosting. Pipe a swirl on top of each cooled cupcake, starting at the outside edge and working your way inward.
  • Place black decorating icing in a piping bag with a small round tip. Pipe a curved line across the top of the frosted cupcake, looping around as if creating a string of lights.
  • Press 7–8 M&Ms along the piped string. Space them evenly so they resemble glowing bulbs on a strand of lights.
  • Arrange the cupcakes on a platter. Enjoy!

Notes

Cool Cupcakes Completely: Make sure your cupcakes are fully cooled before decorating, or the frosting will melt.
Consistent Pressure: When piping the icing string, apply steady pressure to achieve a smooth, even line.
Pick Bright Colors: Choose a mix of red, green, yellow, and blue M&Ms for the most festive effect.
Gel Food Coloring: If you tint your own icing, gel food coloring works better than liquid because it keeps the consistency firm.
